[Wactclc-alma] Extracting records for reclassification project

If you use the "add holdings information", you also get the holdings call number, in an 852 field.

So, I'm guessing that would work for the purposes of this project.

Thanks, Wade. I've just sent them an email asking them to give me the exact specifics of the format they need the data. When I spoke to a rep on the phone, she just said that the bib record file should be in .mrc format, which leads me to think that a bib record with the holdings in an included field is sufficient.

The project is to change the call number, so since the item records in Alma aren't where the call number is located, I am hoping I can get away with the bib record/holdings data export and not worry about sending them item records, too.

Elena,

Does Backstage provide any guidelines or technical specifications on exactly how they want the data to be prepared?

I'm guessing that if you use the export bibliographic records job, with the "Expand Routine" option set to "Add Holdings Information", that will give them the info they need.

This option will put information about items in the 945 field of the exported MARC records.

Hi there:

We are reclassifying our fiction collection and using Backstage Library Works to help with this project. For the project, Backstage is wanting the bib and item records, and our project manager asked if we could send both types of records to them in one file. Now, I know how to extract the bib records from the system for export, but item records, not so much. Also, do I need to worry about holdings records?

Has anyone ever done a project like this using Alma before? Any words of wisdom?
