Just to follow up on this discussion, I wanted to share the Alma enhancements recommendation that just came out today from the Alliance working group to the Alliance membership:

The recommendation<https://www.orbiscascade.org/file_viewer.php?id=8801> (https://www.orbiscascade.org/file_viewer.php?id=8801 )

I just got an alert from someone over there they had released their recommendation today.

Subject: [Wactclc-alma] Alma Enhancement Voting 2018

A couple of you who follow the Alma-L list have asked me about enhancement voting.

As a reminder, the ELUNA Alma enhancement process is driven by ELUNA, and only ELUNA members can participate or vote.

The WACTCLC consortium is a member of ELUNA, and so we have 1 vote. To my knowledge, none of your institutions are members of ELUNA, and so do not have your own votes.

Last year, I used the Orbis Cascade Alliance voting recommendations ( https://www.orbiscascade.org/file_viewer.php?id=6031 ) as a general guide for how I voted the WACTCLC vote, and will do so again this year, simply due to the amount of effort involved to review and consider the hundreds of enhancement requests put up for voting each year. And also because, with only one vote, we can hardly "move the needle" on the outcome of the enhancement process. And therefore, it's not really time-effective to put much thinking into the voting.

(The Alliance requires all institutions to be individual members of ELUNA. Thus, they have a very large block of votes, and have a large and well-structured approach in place to coordinate voting across their consortium. Since, with their large block of votes, they can very much "move the needle" on enhancement outcomes.)

If any of you would like to review this year's preliminary enhancement candidates, of which there are approximately 250, they are attached. And if you have any strong opinions about enhancements that you feel are worthy of voting, you can share those thoughts on this list, or directly to me. But again, unless you have some idle time to spare, it's not going to be time well-spent, as the likely impact of our vote is quite small.

Preliminary voting deadline is April 14, so I will vote shortly before that date.. Following the initial round of voting, the ELUNA committee will narrow voting results down to 20 or so enhancement candidates, with a final voting round occurring this summer.
