[Wactclc-alma] Anonymization issue which I don't think we discussed yet

Dale and all,

Indeed, it looks like my interpretation of events was correct (for a change ☺, “even a broken clock is right twice a day”)

And I see that George updated the anonymization rule to only hold last transactions for 1 day, which cleared out the returns tab on those user records you referenced.

The anonymization rules are somewhat flexible, so you could also anonymize by location, or by user group, in addition to days since turned in.

So, you could just return student transactions for 7 days, for example (and not faculty). Or maybe just retain last loan info for particular media locations (since it’s usually items like laptops, multi-disc DVD sets, or kits, with which you have more concerns about tracking down last user).

It could be because of the “retain last loan” anonymization rule you have in place.

If all of those items showing up on the ‘returns’ tab of those users have not be checked out again yet, that loan transaction is retained until someone else checks the item out.

I checked out an item on my record that was previously checked out and returned by one of your examples.

I’ll check tomorrow, after the anonymization job has run, to see if that return disappears from the user’s account.

Hello all,

Edmonds was under the belief that our anonymization rules were working correctly; however, we have recently discovered a new wrinkle.

Loans are being anonymized as we expected; however, returns are not being anonymized.  If we look at a patron record we no longer see what the patron checked out, but we do see everything they returned, so one can assumed that if they returned an item they probably checked it out.  Anonymizing only half of the transaction doesn't seem useful.

We have looked around and think we have everything coded correctly, but still wonder if we missed something or if Alma isn't considering returns as part of the anonymization process.

Anyone else seeing the same thing?
