Oh, I did find it. To quote John Larson from our in-person workshop: "A disconnect between holding and item locations is not allowed in Alma. A new holding will be created automatically, i.e. if a general collection item is moved to reserves."

So I guess this behavior IS just the way it is?

I think I remember a tidbit from somewhere - maybe certification training? - about Alma and holdings. Since the Fulfillment system is location-based, Alma always creates a second holding record for an item in another location, even if it's the same item in a temporary location. Does that sound familiar to anyone?

I may be able to find some documentation about this, but it's likely to be buried in migration work or in cert training, and I probably won't find it this late on a Friday afternoon. Meanwhile, I do think the display in the New UI is somewhat less confusing than in the old.

I was hoping that someone on the list (or you or Shellie) knew the answer to the question about whether it could be changed. I sure haven't figured out a way to do it after looking at the various configuration options.

Has anyone investigated this at all (checked documentation, posted to Alma-L, open an SF case?)

If not, I don't think we know that "that's just the way it is"

That is a disappointment to find that it is not something that can be tweaked but "that's just the way it is".

I've discovered the same thing when I put something in a temporary location.  I found it very confusing and thought I had done something wrong, but that seems to be the way Alma works right now.

HI Traci:

I ran into this too. What I'm thinking is that Alma will retain the original location in instances where there is a Temporary Location, and for some reason it shows you the two holdings - the permanent one (Shelf), and then the temporary one (Reserves)  The temporary location is what appears in Primo. Then, when you get rid of the temporary record, the original is retained. I find it very distracting to see both of them in Alma, and am having to train myself to look at the Item availability column.  I don't know if there's a way to suppress the display of the permanent location, but I really wish there were...

In the new Alma UI, everything on Reserve displays as having two holdings records. Is there a fix for this ambiguous/incorrect display of information?

Good morning,

All of our holdings that are on reserve have 2 holdings per physical item. In the old Alma UI, it only displayed one holding per item. Is anyone else experiencing this, or is it a bug?
