OK. Thanks, Wade and Lesley for your feedback on that...

Just FYI, renewals in Alma, whether auto- or manual renewals, renew from the "action" date, or the date the renewal action actually occurs. (And always remember to take into account closed days when looking at due dates generated for circulated materials.)

If you set up auto-renewals to renew the day before items are due, then it will essentially look like a renewal from the due date.

And a reminder, Alma mostly just cares about "maximum renewal period", or the maximum amount of time a TOU allows a patron to hold onto an item.

For example, after a 6 month initial loan, the user can renew the item every day if they want. The renewal due date is simply going to be for 6 months from the date of the renewal. So in this example, each daily renewal will only push out the due date by one day. That is, until the user hits the "maximum renewal period" configured in the TOU. If the maximum renewal period on this TOU is 1 year, then the patron can renew the item every day for half a year, after which the new due date would hit the 1 year maximum renewal period. No more renewals would then be allowed, since any new renewal would then push the due date out past the 1 year maximum for the item.

Hi Elena,

We use the Auto Loan Renewal for our employee user groups. We set that up about a year ago, and so far we're happy with it. It cuts down on the amount of notices to faculty.

I believe that it does renew our books from the date they were due, though, not from the original loan date.

Best,
Lesley

Hi Everyone:

Is anyone using the auto-renew function? What items are you using it for and how is it working for you? We haven't enabled it for anything, but are thinking that we should because of the way that Alma renews, not from the date of renewal, but from the original loan date. It might be less confusing that way.

Thanks,

Elena
