Nice answer, Ryer :)

Meanwhile, I would add that the saved lists in Primo could be useful for bibliography creation, if you aren't already using them.

If you log onto Primo, and add titles to a saved list, that list will remain on your account.

You can build it, go back to it, and can also export citations for all titles in your saved list at one time.

Also, if you have a bibliography you want to communicate to others on campus, you could do add a local field to the bibs, and add a key word (like 'btcaccred' or something) to make the items more discoverable, and also allow a direct link to those search results. Or, setting up an Alma course reading list might be another approach. Or creating a libguides page with direct links to the titles.

Hi Jane,

It looks like you are still on the old UI, which actually works pretty well with Zotero. So if you have been using Zotero to create your bibliographies you can continue to do so until you switch to the new UI. (Actually you just reminded me of how unfortunate this aspect of the new UI is).

All citation tools are limited by the quality of metadata. Capitalization is the biggest issue I notice, but there can be some other oddities to watch out for. Most tools can get you close, but you still need a bit of editing and attention.

RIS import/export for Zotero is pretty easy. Don't let that multistep documentation scare you. There really aren't tons of steps. Export RIS from Primo to save file locally, then in Zotero, click gear icon, choose Import, then choose the locally saved file. Again, quality depends on metadata quality.

I have no good suggestions as far as the new Primo UI goes. I need to test more with other citation tools, but Zotero relies on web metadata standards, so I'm expecting most citation tools will have issues. Sometimes I get better formatted info from other sources, so I'll also save from WorldCat, Amazon, Google Scholar, directly in databases, etc.

If you need some local guidance on Zotero or other citation management tools I'd highly recommend Gabe Gossett at WWU<http://libguides.wwu.edu/prf.php?account_id=8686>. He's been using and teaching these tools for a long time and is a big Zotero fan.

Let me know if I can give you more details on any of this,

Here's a sample bibliography from Zotero of items from your Primo (pardon the lack of hanging indent in email formatting):

I'm reposting the message below to the mailing list. For some reason, the listserve server bounced the message when it was initially received.

I need your collective wisdom. Have any of you created a bibliography with Primo/Alma? We need to create several bibliographies for program accreditation documents this summer.

I see I can export items to EasyBib, Refworks, Endnote, or RIS. (Also Delicious, but it has not been activated here.) I looked into Zotero, but it appears that Primo does not play well with Zotero. I found a multiple step process to export the RIS to Zotero on a university's LibGuide, but it was several pages long and it looked like there would be quite a bit of editing afterwards.

Have you heard anything about which software works the best or have you used any of them in Primo/Alma? The citations need to be in APA. Formerly, when we subscribed to EasyBib, I was not impressed with the accuracy of its APA citations. I've looked into purchasing an individual license for Endnote ($250/year) and EasyBib ($120/year). Refworks is through ProQuest. I suspect I can't just purchase one license, but have not asked.

Thank you.

Jane
