[Wactclc-alma] Social Logins for Alma and Primo

Great news Wade. I got Google sign in to work for Alma too. I'm most interested in Social Login for Primo.

For Primo it seems like there are some back office settings that we cannot access as total care customers. Or am I missing something? I'm also considering issues around the step where we need to get Alma to email all users we want to login with social accounts, so that the Alma account gets connected with the social account. This seems like a pretty big drawback because we get new students every quarter and I'm not super optimistic about their click through rates on these kind of emails. For us it's really the students that we'd like to get logged into Primo in some sensible way.

Despite the email limitation with social I'd really love to get all of our users logging into Primo one way or another. We just had some shifts in our IT leadership, so maybe it's time to reinvigorate the talks on user authentication issues with ADFS or something more institutional.

Traci,

As long as the ebook access requires authentication through ezproxy, then no, social login will have no impact.

The social login would only be for Primo, and completely separate from ezproxy.

Hi all,

Just a head's up that I've successfully configured Google Social Login for Alma in one of our Alma sandboxes. (I haven't tested in Primo yet, since we don't have a Primo sandbox, but I don't doubt that it would work.)

So, I'm comfortable that I can get Google social login working, for those that might be interested in using social login for community users.

Basically, social logins can be used to allow community users to log into Primo to place holds, view their accounts, etc (in the same way that students and employees can).

I know of at least one or two institutions that were interested in this functionality to support those kinds of use-cases.

So, let me know if you are interested, and I can set up a walk-through with those of you that would like to make use of social logins.
