Good Morning,

Has anyone resolved this issue? I have forwarded the message to our IT department and haven't heard back yet. I am going to follow-up with them again today.

Thanks,
Traci

Traci and all,

The other factor impacting student postal addresses on notices, is of course the presence or absence of an address in SMS and / or Alma.

If a student record comes out of SMS with*out* a postal address, then the notices for that student will be address-less.

Traci,

Good question.

The postal addresses when originally loaded from Voyager to Alma, were probably correctly marked as "preferred" in Alma.

However, once the daily loads from the HP servers started, we lost the "preferred" for those addresses, because the CTC student (SMS) extract script is *not* setting the postal address as preferred.

To have that corrected for BTC, Curtis can modify his script for the student data (which currently just adds the email addresses) as follows:

What comes out of the SMS CTC script looks like:

<address segment_type='External' preferred='false'>

That needs to be changed, which can be changed via Curtis's script, to:

<address segment_type='External' preferred='true'>

That should be a pretty easy change for Curtis to make, since he has a script that is already customizing the student records in other ways for you.

Hi Wade,

Can you give me more information on how to add the postal address on letters? We used to have addresses show up on our overdue and lost items. When did these start printing without addresses?

Thank you for your help.

Best Regards,
Traci

Doug and all,

Be aware, this issue Doug describes impacts *all* C1 institutions, and the root cause is in the LG321R HP job group script.

So, if you intend to manually print and postal mail some overdue notices, please take note.

SBCTC has been notified, and a script change requested.

Also be aware, a script change may not be forthcoming, until SBCTC re-factors the export scripts for use with ctcLink.

In the meanwhile, there are two possible workarounds you can implement locally:

1. Institutionally-authored scripts that update the data exported from SMS, but before the data is imported into Alma (this is more realistic if you are doing this kind of data customization for other reason), Or:

2. In Alma, you can create a *second* address for a user manually in their user record, and mark that second address as *preferred* (the address entry created by the SBCTC load will be overwritten each night, by design. But the one you enter manually will not be overwritten)

Subject: [Wactclc-alma] Preferred mailing address

We are planning to continue printing out and mailing notices to our users once an item has been declared lost. However the letter that Alma generates is missing the patron's mailing address. It appears this is happening because the mailing addresses are not being marked as 'preferred' in Alma when they come over from SIS.

We can go into a patron record and change the address to 'preferred' but when the patron load is run each night that change is lost.

Anyone else encounter this issue?
