<p class="x_MsoNormal">WSU does not run audits to look for students who move out of state. When a student self-identifies, we take no action. Once they have residency, it remains unless the student reapplies. At that point, we make a new residency determination.</p>

<p class="x_MsoNormal">The relevant WAC is WAC 250-18-025(1): Classification procedure:</p>
<p class="x_MsoNormal"> </p>
<p class="x_MsoNormal" style="margin-left:.5in">After a student has registered at any institution, such student's residency classification shall remain unchanged in the absence of evidence of a sufficient quantity and quality to satisfy the institution to the
contrary. The provision of such evidence to the contrary may be initiated by the student or the institution.</p>
<p class="x_MsoNormal"> </p>
<p class="x_MsoNormal">We don’t typically run such an audit and the general advice we give is that a student will retain their resident classification as long as they remain continuously enrolled. Under the WAC, however, we
<i>could</i> opt to go back and change a student to non-resident.</p>
<p class="x_MsoNormal"> </p>
<p class="x_MsoNormal">If we were going to run such an audit, it would be important to recognize that many students will retain resident classification due to any one of the following:</p>
<ul type="disc" style="margin-top:0in">
<li class="x_MsoListParagraph" style="margin-left:0in">Qualifying under the current affidavit, which only looks at the 12 months immediately prior to the start of their program</li><li class="x_MsoListParagraph" style="margin-left:0in">Qualifying as a dependent student under a resident parent</li><li class="x_MsoListParagraph" style="margin-left:0in">Any number of military categories that might fit</li><li class="x_MsoListParagraph" style="margin-left:0in">Native American residency (for OR, MT, and ID domiciliaries)
</li><li class="x_MsoListParagraph" style="margin-left:0in">Temporary sojourn, such as an internship or study abroad</li></ul>

<p class="x_MsoNormal">I have several emails from students who’re disclosing that they’re planning on moving out of state due to buying property or relocating due to employment. One of their main questions are, they’re currently a WA resident and paying in-state
tuition, how long does it take for their record to be changed to out of state.</p>

<p class="x_MsoNormal">We currently have an audit that will flag students who have an in-state and out of state address on their account, we will work with connecting with the student directly to see if they’re a bona fide WA resident. How does your University
