[RO] Boarding School

Hi Donnie,

At UW, students who are applying from outside of WA would be admitted as non-residents. If they’ve indicated that they are residents on the admission application, the admissions office can use that information however they need to (and they can see the full circumstances) when making an admission decision. Prior to May 1 each year, we run an entire process of verification for admitted students who have indicated that they are residents on their admission application but have potentially contradictory information that needs to be verified. (This includes applying from outside of WA, applying with a PO Box, listing a legal guardian in WA instead of a parent, and even just plain mistakes in residency dates.) Due to the volume that we deal with, we decided that we can no longer work on verification of applicants prior to their admission.

Best,

Good morning all,

Thank you everyone for their responses in regards to my Residency Affidavit deadline!

I have another one that I am not familiar with. I am working with our Admissions team regarding two students who’re currently in boarding school out of state. Students have shared that they have parents who’re bona fide WA residents. Prior to approving their admissions application to in state or out of state, would your office reach out to the student directly to verify their residency status/domicile of student/parents?

Usually I would work with students once they’ve been admitted BUT since the Admissions office reached out, I wanted to make sure that I am on the same page with other University’s as well.

Thank you!
