<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:#1F497D">I agree that gas cost is a slightly odd calculation. Wouldn’t it be better instead to include some kind of amortization of database article use (e.g. our cost for full-text in ASP is 79 cents, but if students
purchased individual articles w/out database subscriptions those costs can range up to $30-40 per article). I don’t know what an accurate formula would be…<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:#1F497D">I have never calculated ROI for our library. It is interesting to see how he did it. Most of it makes sense. One could quibble about the off-campus access to databases. Using the students’ cost for a gallon
of gas as a measure of the college’s ROI doesn’t make sense. His total value is divided by the college’s allocation to the library so adding in the students’ cost of gas is specious. I would be curious to learn what others think.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
