Colleagues,

I am thrilled to share some exciting news. SBCTC's Washington Open ProfTech project has been awarded grant funding under the FY 2023 Open Textbook Pilot Program by the Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE), U.S. Department of Education. Notably, the project has received an additional grant of $2.1 million. Combined with the $1.8 million received over the past two years, this results in a total grant amount of $3.9 million.

The Washington Open ProTech project aims to create open textbooks for high-demand professional technical programs. Initially, this endeavor led to the development of six open introductory textbooks covering fields such as Criminal Justice, Healthcare, Welding, Early Childhood Education, Machining, and Hospitality. Thanks to this new funding, SBCTC will create seven additional open textbooks for various professional technical programs.

Finally, I want to take this opportunity to acknowledge the dedication and hard work of all the Open ProfTech teams over the past two years. Under the exemplary leadership of Monique Belair, our project manager, both faculty cohorts and the support team have demonstrated unwavering commitment and excellence.

Please feel free to reach out to me or Monique Belair (mbelair at sbctc.edu) if you have any questions. We look forward to working with you on this exciting new project.

Sincerely,
Boyoung, the Project Director
