Ours was that we had to keep track if we sold them.    We have sold some VERY cheaply (VERY CHEAPLY) in the past when we have done a major weeding.  If we don’t think they are saleable, we pull off the covers and page with our info and recycle them.  We have learned to do stealth recycling as it upsets some people.

I really appreciate the responses. It seems like giving away to people who want them is a better solution than recycling.

Has anyone gotten an opinion from their AAG?

We have done mass amounts of weeding in the last year and a half. At one point I asked facilities what to do with the literal room full of books (half full mark: https://photos.app.goo.gl/ZX3vcfbxjNH6fue46)
Facilities asked me if we could provide a list that they would send to SPL. I gave the list, and have heard nothing. In the mean time we may store book trucks in public and refresh them when things are "stolen" and Tim said.

At one point they did not want to by facial tissue because that would be using state purchased items for personal use.  So I asked how we could buy toilet paper then and said “Fine. I’ll just put a roll of toilet paper on the service desk for students to use.”  We now have facial tissue at the desk.  😉

Along those lines, someone from our Business Office once questioned our purchase of book marks.  We use to buy a bunch at the beginning of the school year and it caught their attention for some reason.  I informed the inquirer that we don’t give those away.  We leave them on the counter and people STEAL them.

Hi all,

I think I keep coming back to this question because I can't accept the answer, so apologies in advance. I know we cannot sell weeded books, but can we put them on a free table, or do we have to recycle them? Thanks for your help and patience!
