At BTC, community members may check out two non-reserve items at a time. They can use reserves materials in the library for up to two hours. They may use the lab computers for an hour per day (staff sign them in with public account credentials), with very limited printing options. They can request additional computer time if they are using library databases. No community ILL services are available; however, Whatcom County libraries have a Connections program, so all borrowers can request materials from other libraries be sent to BTC for self-checkout (returns for other libraries are picked up from BTC, too).

We have had community borrowers for over 25 years (my tenure) and have not run into this problem.

Also, adding that our community borrowers can access our databases while on campus.  Typically, they don’t take advantage of that.

My librarian colleagues are worried about community members checking out books that our students need, and I get that, especially with the test prep manuals. Do any of you have the same concerns?
