[GuidedPathways] EAB Navigate - Advisor Notes

Hello all!

As an FYI/reminder (apologies if this is redundant info; if so, skip a bit): Currently, no student success software solution (Starfish, Navigate, etc.) will be able to engage in "two-way" data flow between that software and ctcLink. We can create structures to export data in fairly robust and usable ways from ctcLink to the software, though we are not yet in a place to allow such software to write data "back" to ctcLink. So some/many features will be limited. Further, when we get to a place where we can do this, it will almost certainly only be possible for one such tool to be fully integrated and will not be something that each institution will be able to adjust (you might think of this as similar to something like Canvas, where one tool is supported across the system ...you can use something different, though it will not have the same integrated functionality). We will likely begin system work on examining direction for this shortly, though anticipate it will take quite some time (that is, don't expect an identified tool/path by fall). :)

That said, there are still great opportunities and features that can be useful, such as advisor notes, pathways, and a wide range of other supports/networks.

A key piece of this is exporting data from ctcLink (and doing so frequently) so that your third-party software is "aligned" with data in ctcLink. The software will not automatically write information back to ctcLink, though one could use the software to collect info in order to manually enter it into ctcLink.

To the actual question: Yes! Pierce uses Starfish (and uses it for advisor/support network notes and managing pathways) and was the first out of the gate to transition Starfish from our Legacy system to ctcLink. The benefit of the single instance of ctcLink is that the programming code is, by and large, identical ...and Pierce is happy to share that programming code (and has) for those colleges that are engaged with Starfish.

So:

Yes. Happy to share what we have with colleges engaging with Starfish.

Yes. We can export data from ctcLink to Starfish (and other similar tools such as Navigate).

No. At this time, no information can be written back to ctcLink from such software, so if "structure/connect that system with ctcLink data" means two-way flow, that is not currently possible.

Sorry if that was too much, confusing, or missed the point! Please let me know if you have questions or need additional info.

Kind regards,

Matt

Hi Caesar,

I was the Navigate administrator for Eastern Washington University from 2017-2019, which included the initial implementation. EWU uses Banner, but I'm familiar with how the data moved between their systems and Navigate. Depending on your reporting systems, it may not be difficult to use Navigate with PeopleSoft. Please feel free to reach out.

Best,

Roy

Hello, Everyone.

Would anyone be open to sharing if they use third-party systems such as EAB navigate (or Similar) to handle Advisor notes and pathways and how they structure/connect that system with ctcLink data?

Thank you for any information you can provide.
