Dear Friends and Colleagues: Please see below for an upcoming event and two new publications:

1) WEBINAR ON JUNE 11: Please join me when I speak in ProfKeefe's Webinar tomorrow, Thursday June 11, 2-3pmEastern (11-12Pacific) on the topic of "Embracing Anti-Oppressive Education." This event is free and open to the public. I will focus my comments on the role of anti-oppressive education in two aspects of this moment: the coronavirus pandemic, and anti-blackness. Thanks to my friend and comrade, Elizabeth Stringer Keefe, for inviting me to her excellent webinar series. See attached, or visit here to register: https://apply.stonehill.edu/register/ed-webinar<https://nam12.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fapply.stonehill.edu%2Fregister%2Fed-webinar&data=02%7C01%7Cvbahl%40greenriver.edu%7Cebd9ce77fe20453f10d008d80d5ede27%7Cfa40663e972749789bce776cf824bca5%7C0%7C0%7C637274048401255703&sdata=MmgHDXnsimBXIUfUr1oT4KA246uZ1qEJv%2F%2BOqm4y8oI%3D&reserved=0>.

2) ESSAY ON CORONA-CAPITALISM: Big thanks to Teachers College Press for publishing my essay, "Corona-Capitalism and the Racialized Looting of Public Schools," in the latest TCP Blog. As the COVID-19 crisis unfolds, proponents of market-based reforms have wasted little time capitalizing on the same two conditions that propelled privatization in New Orleans post-Katrina, except at a scale and level without precedent: school closures and federal funding. With the federal stimulus packages, we already see an expansion of vouchers as well as of tax dollars going to private schools and charter schools, but the biggest winner by far will be technology companies, some of whom have been pushing for the technologization of education for years. https://www.tcpress.com/blog/corona-capitalism-racialized-looting-public-schools/<https://nam12.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.tcpress.com%2Fblog%2Fcorona-capitalism-racialized-looting-public-schools%2F&data=02%7C01%7Cvbahl%40greenriver.edu%7Cebd9ce77fe20453f10d008d80d5ede27%7Cfa40663e972749789bce776cf824bca5%7C0%7C0%7C637274048401255703&sdata=YZpw1%2FlfnkkGqeLAyNpF0HaqFKvyDa0INBXvxsNwVkM%3D&reserved=0>

3) OP-ED ON RACIALIZED DISEASE: Big thanks to Insight Into Diversity for publishing my op-ed, "COVID-19, Racialized Disease, and the Yellow Peril," in the May/June issue that spotlights Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. The U.S. has a long history of anti-Asian racism, particularly in the forms of racialized disease and the ‘Yellow Peril’ (fear of Asian invasion and conquest). Attacks on Asians, especially people of Chinese descent, have risen starkly during the pandemic, and will likely continue to rise as the scapegoating of China intensifies during election season. https://www.insightintodiversity.com/covid-19-racialized-disease-and-the-yellow-peril/<https://nam12.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.insightintodiversity.com%2Fcovid-19-racialized-disease-and-the-yellow-peril%2F&data=02%7C01%7Cvbahl%40greenriver.edu%7Cebd9ce77fe20453f10d008d80d5ede27%7Cfa40663e972749789bce776cf824bca5%7C0%7C0%7C637274048401265696&sdata=Z%2F0h7raSuZgr4b0UjmHbs6V1Vh5GMw34%2BvPasqG%2FMBM%3D&reserved=0>

I share these in the hopes that they are helpful in your work,
Kevin
