I love to see that more campuses are brining drag shows into our spaces. We actually want to do that for our main Pride event this year (if we can swing the timing/planning process). Happy to be a thought partner. I don't see a need to give any statement of opting out. I think if the location is situated near any spaces that would be sensitive to content above a PG13 rating then I think a courtesy call with some mini education is not a bad idea (for example if the main event space is next to the daycare - do the daycare staff know how to engage age appropriate conversation about gender expression and sexual orientation?).

Robert,

We've had a couple, usually hosted through an affinity group or in conjunction with Lavender graduation. We don't put any disclaimers for opting out, since they'd have to actively come to wherever it's being held.

I guess my question is, why would they need to opt out? Is it in a place people can't avoid? You can call or text me if that's a better way to thought partner on this.

We also had a little celebration when we unveiled our rainbow crosswalk that included a queen I believe. We haven't had any pushback in the time I've been here.

Hello family,

We have not sponsored a drag show event on our campus and a couple of the drag shows that have been hosted in our community have not been received well from conservative folks (active protests). We do host a Pride Prom on campus in June every year and that is well attended, but we always have to hire extra security and be prepared for pushback.

For those of you who have sponsored "Family Friendly" drag Shows on your campuses, could you provide any language you used to advertise it internally?

I'm planning one for our campus and want to make sure we included language that gives students, staff and faculty the option to opt out of participation and for faculty to provide hybrid options for classes during that time.....
