Thank you, Maribel for the MSSDC update.  I am working on finalizing a rep for MSSDC and will notify Edwina once it is settled. If there is a way we can sponsor Linda, I know it would be lifechanging for our students and would be happy to support in any way. And we are beyond overdue for a joint meeting.

Weighing in on the asks:
I support meeting with MSSDC in spring. I think we can also help support funding Linda Sasour – I’m not sure of the mechanics of doing that though.
And finally, I have no capacity to do a workshop proposal, but I am happy to be on a workshop panel at SOCC to talk with students. I’m hoping others can step up to create the proposal?

Attached are the meeting notes from the MSSDC meeting I attended at Yakima Valley College Nov. 15-17, 2023.

I want to focus your attention to the asks from MSSDC:

  *   Requesting in Spring (Skagit Valley College) meeting together with DEOC for clarification of roles and how to work together

  *   Continue to advocate for a representative from your college to join the MSSDC<https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1yyhBOUGjBnJG7_CcCy3lAcspjfmdIvOfTYIiRxu9T1k/edit#gid=0> if you don’t have one
  *   Asking for help for funding Linda Sasour for SOCC, can DEOC sponsor part of her fee? $5000
  *   Student safety support, MSSDC is in the process of crafting a letter/statement about safety of Muslim students on campuses across the community college system
  *   If no MSSDC representative from your college, can DEOC member recommend a contact for SOCC information to go to? If so send name to Edwina Fui efui at highline.edu<mailto:efui at highline.edu>
