DEOC--

I didn't see a meeting on the calendar for December so I'm offering that Vik Bahl, English Professor at Green River College, present to y'all before the end of the year either on December 13 @10am or December 14 @ 11am (watch for calendar invites). Vik has been working on a DEI Faculty Fellows model for a few years now, and I've given him some funding to build out the model more fully. There is currently no funding for this program, but I believe the modeling of a program like this is in alignment with our commitments to racial equity and being able to create a proof of concept will help secure future funding.

This model is akin to a postdoc fellowship in that it is a temporary academic appointment role after the completion of one's doctoral studies for folks to explore and prepare for an academic faculty appointment.

Some highlights of this particular model that I am excited about are that they would:

  *   be full-time positions with individuals who would bring discipline-specific expertise to meet the needs of students of color, WA communities of color, and WA Tribes;

  *   teach 1-2 courses per quarter to have additional time/space to support the professional development of colleagues (e.g., through conducting workshops and trainings, leading a faculty learning community, etc.);

  *   engage students and community, e.g., via collaboration with Multicultural Student Services offices;

  * participate in statewide or multi-college networks and initiatives related to one or more communities of color based on experience and expertise.

Hope folks are able attend one of those and if not, I can record or you can send me questions in advance.
