Happy Friday y'all--

Two requests:

  1. Please take a moment to provide input to the strategic planning update survey I sent out on Tuesday this week. The current plan was created, to my knowledge, before the DEOC exists in the way it does today, so your input is absolutely necessary. The invitation is pasted below so you don't have to look for the message I sent. Input is due by Wednesday, May 3.
  2. DEOC page is live on the SBCTC site. Courtnay just published whatever was drafted, so I already see that there is outdated/missing info. If there a workgroup that will provide input on changes, please work through them and get me feedback. Otherwise, I'll look to the leadership team to do that. I already see these items that need attention: updated roster<https://www.sbctc.edu/colleges-staff/commissions-councils/deoc/membership> (I have that), leadership roster<https://www.sbctc.edu/colleges-staff/commissions-councils/deoc/> (need), meeting minutes<https://www.sbctc.edu/colleges-staff/commissions-councils/deoc/minutes> (need), and resources<https://www.sbctc.edu/colleges-staff/commissions-councils/deoc/resources> (need). Happy to build out more pages—we can plan a meeting to discuss.

Thanks, y'all and have a lovely weekend!

Sophia

Dear DEOC--

The State Board (SBCTC) is working to refresh the college system’s 2020-2030 strategic plan<https://www.sbctc.edu/resources/documents/about/agency/strategic-plan/strategic-plan.pdf> to better reflect the higher education landscape since it was released in 2019. The goal is to ensure the plan remains dynamic and addresses what has taken place and revealed since it was originally written. The intent is to update, but not entirely rewrite, the existing strategic plan. To do so, we would like to hear what members of the Diversity and Equity Officers Commission, the Student Services Commission, and the Instruction Commission see as the future of higher education, specifically for community and technical colleges and the students we serve. It has also been sent to presidents and trustees.

I’m writing to ask if you would please complete this survey by Wednesday, May 3<https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/MKCR7KX>. The answers can be as short or as long as you wish. Identifiable information like name or college is not being collected.

The DEOC didn't exist in the way it exists now, and I hope you'll consider this opportunity to share what you hope and need to see in a strategic plan for the agency. Please say what needs to be said if you feel comfortable doing so.

Thank you in advance for helping us gather insights as the State Board considers how best to serve students, employers and communities within a changing higher education landscape.

Peace,

Sophia
