Subject: College Fraudulent Business Process Survey – Due 2/2/24

Dear college community,

The past few years have presented numerous challenges. As staff have continued supporting admissions, enrollment, and general student services, external bad actors have increased their efforts to undermine cyber integrity with fraudulent applications.

The Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges (SBCTC) remains committed to fraud detection and prevention while minimizing the potential impact to students and staff. As part of these efforts, a systemwide Fraudulent Application Sub-Group of college admissions staff, registrars, IT staff, and business analysts has been convened to discuss fraudulent application activities and potential solutions. Part of this work includes establishing common fraudulent investigative business processes across all colleges.
The Fraudulent Application Sub-Group would first like to learn more about local college business processes for activities related to:

  *   Investigating potential fraudulent students
  * Reporting fraudulent students in ctcLink
  *   Verifying student identities

Request for college input
A survey has been created with questions related to admissions, student financials, faculty, and financial aid. We request that all colleges complete this survey by Friday, Feb. 2, 2024. We are seeking only one submission per college, so please coordinate on your campuses to collect feedback. Please see the attached PDF for a list of all possible survey questions.

Please note that the survey uses smart logic based on responses.

If you have any questions, please email Dani Bundy<mailto:dbundy at sbctc.edu> and Kyrsten Catlin<mailto:kcatlin at sbctc.edu>.

Thank you,

Dani and Kyrsten
