Knowing is Half the Battle

DID YOU KNOW? Any authorization of an award that you ‘override’ will continue to remain on the Authorization Failure report because the error was not ‘resolved’ but ‘overridden’. It would be the same idea for those awards that have never disbursed due to an authorization failure then you cancelled their awards. The error remains on the report since the authorization process will not pick up a combination like $0 Accepted $0 Authorized $0 Disbursed to re-authorize the aid. The report looks for one of those amounts being a non-zero.

Query workaround to the above Auth Fail Report issue:

The queries CTC_FA913 and QCS_FA913_WITH_ERROR_COUNT have additional criteria of “authorized amount do not not equal the accepted amount” so the students mentioned above as a known issue are eliminated from the results.

The QRGs and BPGs are currently undergoing a continual overhaul to accommodate the upcoming PeopleTools 8.59 system upgrade. Keep your eyes peeled for a new look and feel of the QRGs in the coming months as we work through 4,000 QRGs and guides in the ctcLink Reference Center! If you want to take a looksie to see what they’re going to look like, you can check out the list of QRGs below.

Changes include:

  * Removing Nav Bar > Navigation > Main Menu navigation from the nav paths. Nav paths are still there, but will begin with Financial Aid > etc.
  * Removing the 9.2 from the QRG title
  * Removing and/or limiting the filler screen shots on the QRGs and replacing with MP4 Video Tutorials embedded in the QRG
  * Where necessary, adding relevant verbiage to support more complex features and functions in the process tasks
  * Added a Fundamentals section to the ctcLink Reference Center Homepage – where basic steps such as a Run Control ID or Process Scheduler is called out in the QRG, a link to the explanation of Run Control IDs and or Process Scheduler is linked to the Fundamentals section of the Reference Center.

Let’s talk HOT KEYS! What the heck ARE hot keys anyway? A hot key is a key or a combination of keys providing quick access to a particular function within a program. Want to know some cool quick hot keys so you can feel just a little bit more like Angelina Jolie in the 1995 movie Hackers?

We’ll start you off small with some browser hot keys, no taking over the world just yet . . . 😂

  1. Ctrl + Shift + T = Open the most recently closed tab. Do you have eleventy-seven tabs always open, and OOPS you closed one and didn’t mean to? Well, try this hot key combo on your browser, and voila, there that closed tab will appear again!
  2. Ctrl + back arrow = Go back one page in your browsing history. This combo is your mouse-free way to back in your browser. Were you reading deep into hundreds of pages of regulations and then you went to a new link, and OH WAIT, where was I? You can Ctrl + back arrow to bring those regs back up.
  3. Space bar = Automatically scroll down a page while reading/browsing. Is your mouse hand tired? Let the space button do the work . . . scroll away with the aid of the space bar.
  4. Ctrl + D = Bookmark a page. Oh you found a page you need to frequent? Bookmark it!
  5. Ctrl + F = Find a word or value on the page. My personal favorite; saves you sooo much time from scrolling!
  6. Ctrl + L = Move the cursor to the URL bar. If you want to go to a new website, you can use this hot key combo to move the cursor right into the URL field where you can enter the web address.
  7. Ctrl + K = Move the cursor to the search bar. If you want to look something up in your search engine, go right to the search bar and enter in the word of what you want to search.
  8. Ctrl + 1 = Switch to the first tab. Need to go back to the first step of all your tabs? Use this hot key combo to take you right there.
  9. Ctrl + = Zoom in. Can’t see the itty bitty font very well? Ctrl + will zoom it in for you 😊
  10. Ctrl + Enter = .com Add .com to your entry into your url. Save a couple of keystrokes!
  11. Ctrl + W = Close current tab. Done with a tab, and don’t want to have eleventy-seven-and-one tabs open? Ctrl + W will close the tab.
