As some of you are aware, May 16th was Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD). I put a challenge out to the college to see who could earn the most badges by completing an accessibility micro-course or facilitating/participating in/attending a GAAD event.

For the college that earned the most badges, SBCTC would award a credit of $1,000 to apply towards closed captioning through the SBCTC Caption Hub.

I'm excited that we ended up with three winners!

Spokane won the GAAD challenge by earning a total of 40 badges.

We also wanted to give an award to the school that earned the most badges relative to their faculty and staff headcount. That said, I'm excited to also award Big Bend a $1,000 credit in the Caption Hub!

And, because making sure it's not just a few people doing the heavy lifting, we're also awarding Shoreline a $1,000 credit for having the most unique badge earners at 16 people for 19 badges!

All in all, 263 accessibility badges were awarded leading up and on Global Accessibility Awareness Day. But, what's perhaps most exciting is that the work didn't stop there. As of today (just shy of two weeks past GAAD), we've awarded a total of 417 accessibility badges!

It's really exciting to see folks around the system commit themselves to improve their practices in order to be more inclusive and accessible.

That said, I'd like to formally recognize everyone* who facilitated, attended, participated in, and/or provided valuable support to the Global Accessibility Awareness Day events:
