Greetings!

Some of you may know that NWCCU has shared a first draft of revised and greatly streamlined accreditation standards and are accepting feedback through March 30. The standards have not addressed technology accessibility, so this is a good time to get it on their radar.

The draft standards have been drastically reduced in some areas. There had been two headings, one for Physical Infrastructure and Technology Infrastructure that are now merged together. (Note: the revised standard does not actually say ANYTHING about technology.)

At OC, we have been looking at the draft NWCCU standards and are planning to recommend adding accessibility for people with disabilities into the only standard left.

Current draft standard under Physical and Technology Infrastructure:

2.H.1 Consistent with its mission, the institution creates and maintains physical facilities that are accessible, safe, secure, and sufficient in quantity and quality to ensure healthful learning and working environments that support the institution's mission, programs, and services.

Recommendation:

2.H.1 Consistent with its mission, the institution creates and maintains physical facilities and electronic information technology that are available, accessible for people with disabilities, safe, secure, and sufficient in quantity and quality to ensure healthful learning and working environments that support the institution's mission, programs, and services.

Individuals at an accredited institutions are able to make recommendations or you may want to coordinate with your institution's Accreditation Liaison Officer. They are also accepting public comments. Find the draft standards and more information on the NWCCU Standards Review<http://www.nwccu.org/accreditation/standards-review/> webpage.

Thanks,
Erica
