<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif;color:black">Judy Miner and I want to bring you up-to-date about the baccalaureate bill. As you know, Senator Jerry Hill has put forth a new bill, SB 874, which makes the fifteen existing baccalaureate
pilot programs permanents and expands the opportunity of offering baccalaureate programs to all community colleges through an approval process under the authority of the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office. We are pleased to have systemwide
support, including the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges. Your support for this bill as it moves through the California Senate and Assembly committees is essential. So please take a moment to express your support, even briefly, to add to
the voices we need to succeed.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif;color:black"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif;color:black">Senate Bill 874 has already been sent to the Senate Education Committee, where it will shortly be reviewed. We are not sure when it will be heard, but have been told with all the
chaos surrounding the current COVID-19 crisis, is beneficial to submit letters of support sooner rather than later. Even though the legislature is not in session, the staff are still reviewing and analyzing bills. We will keep you updated as information regarding
the hearing becomes available. You may attach any governing board resolutions, articles, op eds, or other materials to support your case. It would also be important if you can have letters from businesses and community groups sent to the committee, so that
we can demonstrate the statewide breadth and strength of support for the community college baccalaureate (a few of you have sent such letters to me; please attach them to your correspondence to the legislators).
