<div><font face="Calibri Light">We gave our update on captioning to ELC this morning, so I wanted to share the info with you as well. (I’m also going to forward it to your IT Accessibility Coordinators, so that they are in the loop.)</font></div>
<div><font face="Calibri" size="2"><span style="font-size:11pt;"> </span></font></div>
<div><font face="Calibri Light">To start, here’s a rough 11 minute <a href="https://youtu.be/wIYwMbIC134"><font color="#0563C1"><u>video demo of the Caption Hub</u></font></a> so that you get a sense of what we’ve been working on (I know, I know, captions are
on their way!).</font></div>
<div><font face="Calibri" size="2"><span style="font-size:11pt;"> </span></font></div>
<div><font face="Calibri Light">Please note, the captioning hub is still undergoing some testing and revision – but, once it is launch it will give you all the following abilities:</font></div>
<ul style="margin:0;padding-left:36pt;">
<font face="Calibri Light">
<li>Faculty can submit requests</li><li>College admin can moderate (accept/deny) requests</li><li>Videos can be routed to the college’s 3Play account, the SBCTC 3Play account (if it qualifies for discounted pricing), or transcribed locally</li><li>Users can access the completed caption files/embed code from the hub</li></font>

<div style="margin-bottom:12pt;"><font face="Calibri Light">To prepare for the launch of the hub there are a few things we’re asking folks to do: </font></div>

<li style="margin-bottom:12pt;"><b>Set up your 3Play account</b> (this should be taken care of by your eLearning coordinator if it hasn’t happened already).</li></font>
</ol>

<li style="margin-bottom:12pt;">You don’t need to use this account, but go ahead and get it set up in case someone does want to use it in the future – you’ll be able to assign videos to different billing accounts if you have this set up. </li></font>

<ol start="2" style="margin:0;padding-left:36pt;">

<li style="margin-bottom:12pt;"><i>Working with your eLearning team</i>, <b>determine who will have access to the captioning hub</b>. You can grant access at different levels, so it’s up to you all to determine how many folks you want to give access to.</li></font>

<li style="margin-bottom:12pt;">Upon the initial launch, you may not want <i>all</i> faculty submitting requests – figure out how to prioritize who will have access. A few possibilities:</li></font>
</ol>
<ol type="i" style="margin:0;padding-left:108pt;">
<font face="Calibri Light">
<li>Enable the hub in only one Canvas course where approved faculty are enrolled and can submit requests.</li><li>Enable hub in a subaccount, allowing particular departments access (perhaps they have budget set aside to caption their videos). </li><li>Set up an “accommodation request” course where only faculty who need to caption videos for accommodation requests can submit videos.</li><li style="margin-bottom:12pt;">Enable it in all classes and see what happens!</li></font>
</ol>

<li style="margin-bottom:12pt;">This is also where you need to think about <b>how you’re going to determine which requests are approved or denied</b>. And that, my friends, is greatly tied to your budget. A few things…</li></font>

<li style="margin-bottom:12pt;"><b>The caption hub will allow two levels of administrators</b>. We are working with the eLearning coordinators to be the college admins, but we have developed a <b>sub-administrator account for DSS</b> staff to approve and deny
<i>only those requests that are marked as being for an accommodation request</i>. Therefore, it’s important that these two offices work together as you move forward on captioning. <font face="Wingdings">J</font> </li></font>
