Hi Monica,

Let’s start with the power of data visualizations, or charts and graphs.

Data visualizations are several data points coming together to communicate a trend or opportunity helping people make better decisions. In any industry, this is essential, meaning it’s also essential that they’re accessible and usable.

On top of basic accessibility requirements like color, keyboard accessibility, and screen reader compatibility, we have 5 ways to make your data visualizations more usable for users with disabilities:

  1. Give the tabular data.
  2. Use headings to introduce the data.
  3. Write detailed captions.
  4. Make goal-oriented data views.
  5. Give filter options.

For more detailed information about each of these strategies, read How to make charts and graphs more accessible<https://click.convertkit-mail2.com/38umrr24m7ckhoz2w5lirh56e0pnn/7qh7h8hom8429wtz/aHR0cHM6Ly9ibG9nLnBvcGUudGVjaC8yMDIzLzA4LzMxL2hvdy10by1tYWtlLWNoYXJ0cy1hbmQtZ3JhcGhzLW1vcmUtYWNjZXNzaWJsZS8=>.

Lists and tables

Lists and tables are the backbone of these data visualizations since they’re typically based on tabular data. Certain situations won’t need a data visualization. Instead, a simple table or list will accomplish the goal.

When made correctly, lists and tables are easy for people with disabilities to navigate. It’s just a matter of the content creator knowing how to make them. Learn how to make semantically correct lists and tables in these resources:
