<p class="MsoNormal">Just reaching out to keep you all in the loop. I had a meeting with the DSHS ABAWD implementation team on Friday. DSHS is moving forward as quickly as possible now that the rule has been finalized. However, there are still several steps
that need to occur. The counties that qualify for an exemption need to be determined. That is the big one, because it does affect referrals and possible Workfare sites. DSHS is moving forward with the goal of starting referrals as soon as possible, and
way before the April 1, final implementation date. They are hoping that referrals will begin sometime in January, and as soon as a date is in place I will let you know I promise. I know this is hard, it is hard for me too. The news reporting is making this
all the harder, but it is also a time for us to put a positive spin on this whole thing. WA is ahead of the game and that is good. Below is a n example of a positive spin.

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left:.5in">Ex: The State of Washington has been proactive about setting up a way to help people who could potentially lose their food benefits by providing Navigators through the community college system to work with the
ABAWDS. These navigators will help ABAWDS to get the resources they need to meet the work requirements and keep their food benefits. Our goal is to ensure that no Washingtonians suffer from food insecurity.

<p class="MsoNormal">I have a meeting again this week with the DSHS ABAWD implementation team and will continue to update you as I find out any information. Also look for information on some changes to how ABAWDS will be classified once they move into BFET.
This will be coming soon.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">If you haven’t yet, ask your BFET administrator for their FY 20 BFET matrices from their BFET grant. Make sure you have connected with all the CBO’s in the matrix. We are getting feedback that CBO’s don’t know you exist and how/why you
might be referring to them. <o:p></o:p></p>
